Taxi Information, Revised
Dear Pilgrims,
If you have asked us to arrange a taxi to meet you at the New Delhi Airport, please note that this update will provide you with additional information, including taxi fees.
Before you depart for your flight to Delhi, print our your pre-pilgrimage hotel's name and address that you received by e-mail confirmation (or for those of you arriving on November 15th, print out the address of the Ramakrishna Mission at http://www.kriyayoga-150years.com/firstday.php ) and bring it with you to give to your taxi driver.
The price of this pre-arranged taxi service will be approximately 1400 Indian Rupees if there are 1 to 3 people in your group, plus 100 Rupees as a tip. This is for transportation from the New Delhi Airport to your pre-pilgrimage hotel, which is in the Ramakrishna Mission Area. Larger groups can expect to pay slightly extra in taxi fees. Do not use foreign currency with taxi drivers; pay taxis in rupees only.
Please exchange enough currency at the airport to pay for your taxi and any other expenses you anticipate. There are foreign exchange services at many locations in the airport, where you will need your passport to exchange currency. ***If you are staying at the Cottage Yes Please Hotel or the Cottage Crown Plaza Hotel, these two hotels will require you to pay your hotel bill upon check-in. We have negotiated with all our hotels to keep the room rates as low as possible, including arranging shared rooms for pilgrims (with fellow pilgrims of the same gender). The rates will range from approximately 1000 to 2500 Rupees per night, per room, depending on the room and how many beds are in the room (from 2 to 4 beds per room). Know that if you are the first pilgrim arriving in your hotel room and there are no roommates that day, you will be responsible for the whole room rate for that day. However, the good news is that the group room rates we have negotiated are usually much lower than one could book for one's self. Also, we have booked pilgrims arriving on the same day to be roommates wherever possible.
After you arrive at the New Delhi Airport, proceed to Immigration Control for passport formalities (where you will be asked for your passport and a completed Arrival form, also known as a Customs Declaration form, which you will be given on the airplane.) On completion of these formalities, proceed to the Baggage Carousel to pick up your luggage and go through to Customs. When you exit Customs you will need to choose either the Red Lane (if you have anything to declare) or Green Lane (if you have nothing to declare). After Customs you will go to the primary Arrival Hall.
As you exit the terminal, you will see many people waiting to greet passengers. When you are in this area, look for Exit Gate 4. (If you mistakenly exit by the wrong Gate, just turn around and look for Gate 4.) Our drivers will be waiting outside the terminal with many other taxi drivers. They will each be holding a sign with your name and the words “Kriya Yoga Pilgrimage.” Look for your name or for a Kriya Yoga sign and this will be your driver.
Greet your driver by saying "Namaste" with folded hands -- the customary greeting in India. Please confirm the name of your hotel to the driver to ensure that you are taken to the right hotel. Pay the driver directly. It is customary to give a small tip in Indian Rupees to whoever you let carry your luggage.
